Shyam in Grade 10 attended the Student Budget Consultation hosted by CIVIX (a non-partisan, organization dedicated to building active and engaged citizenship among young Canadians). The office of the Deputy Prime Minister hosted a virtual youth roundtable inviting 12 students, 10 of whom were from Ontario, and the Honourable Chrystia Freeland.
In her role as Finance Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Freeland was very interested in speaking directly with young Ontarians regarding their priorities for the upcoming federal budget. Student participants had the opportunity to voice their priorities and the Deputy Prime Minister responded directly to their concerns as part of the official pre-budget consultation process.
Shyam focused his concern on the future of youth as well as income inequality as he believes it encapsulates many issues including sustainability, education, housing, as well as wages. We are proud to have had Shyam represent our school and our students at this roundtable discussion.
